I wanted to honor this pregnancy… and just the beauty of how life-giving this world is.
When Angela booked her original shoot with me, she was navigating the quiet, aching aftermath of multiple pregnancy losses. She wanted to honor her body, to celebrate the love she shared with her husband through a season that tested their hearts. Now, standing once again in front of my lens—this time with her baby boy growing inside her—the energy felt completely different. Still tender, romantic, and intentional but now as a joyful celebration.
We planned her Empowered Mama session at Tracks Beach here on Oahu, a place she and her husband love. Angela wanted to “utilize the water and the landscape of Hawaii and just the beauty of that to honor how life-giving this world is.” And she’s exactly right – Tracks Beach Park is a somewhat remote and secluded beach. Even though it’s right off the highway, it feels wild, open and deeply alive. The elements came together perfectly for this session – water, waves, light, land.
“What I saw in the beautiful photos you took,” she told me, “was the feeling of my vision coming to life.” She didn’t go into it with a fixed image in mind, but with a feeling, one she hoped would reflect her desire to honor this moment. “I just really wanted to honor that pregnancy,” she said. “I’ve been gifted with this blessing of life, and I’m a vessel for that. It’s an honor to be that—for myself.”
Angela moved through her shoot with a confidence that comes from within – not performative or polished, but fully present. “Aside from the photos looking very beautiful,” she reflected after seeing her gallery, “I was proud of the hair and makeup I did, and I felt like myself.”
That sense of pride and presence extended to how she spoke about her body. “I appreciate watching my body naturally adapt,” she said. “It’s making space for my baby to grow and preparing to feed him. I think it’s all very beautiful.”
When I asked her what it means to be an empowered mama, her answer was simple and true: it’s about tuning out the noise and tuning into yourself.
“So much around us tries to tell us what motherhood should look like,” she said. “Social media, opinions, everyone and their mom’s advice… it can be overwhelming. But your body knows how to be a mom. Empowerment is tapping into that.”
And really, that’s what this session captured. Not just the beauty of a long-awaited pregnancy, but the quiet confidence that comes from honoring your body for all it’s been through. The images are beautiful, yes—but more than that, they feel like her: peaceful, strong and fully present in this season she worked so hard to reach.
