Six Sisters and a Fun Saturday

sis•ter (noun)

A person whose been where you've been; someone you can call when things aren't going right; more then just family; forever friend

On a frigid Saturday last month I had these six gorgeous girls in my studio all day.  They brought with them so much fun, warmth, and beauty.   The memories made and the moments captured are a beautiful testament to the wonderful friendship of sisterhood.  These gorgeous portraits are a timeless gift that celebrates their life now and will become an heirloom for future generations.

Portrait of a Best Friend

I could go on and on about her beautiful face, hair, and eyes...

But instead, I'll tell you that this girl possess a heart of gold and is a friend of friends.  We had such a wonderful day in the studio together photographing each other, discussing big dreams, and making memories.  I loved capturing her unique style and 'classy-ness' in these portraits.

Carmen, you glow of grace, strength and beauty and these portraits are a testament to your story.  You're a gem!

3 Ways to Always Look Great in your Photos

1. Chin

Always push out your chin ever so slightly.  Although it might feel a bit awkward, engaging your chin tightens loose skin and gets rid of that extra chin we all carry around.

2. Shoulder

Work that shoulder.  While it tightens the muscle in your arms and makes them appear leaner it also puts body language into a pose.  That is always a great addition.

3. Hourglass

Always accent your body line. If you think of yourself as having an hour glass shape and accent it in your photos you will immediately see a difference.  Create diamonds and triangles with your arms as you pose or keep your elbows inside the hourglass line.   Either way, remembering to accent your body line in photos is always more appealing then an image where your arms and body are flat.

Young Beauty

Today is this lovely young lady's birthday.  I had the wonderful privilege of photographing her several weeks ago and let me tell you, it was one of the funnest days here in my studio.  Brittany and her mother are the bomb!  She is such a vivacious and beautiful girl.

Brittany, I am so happy that I had the opportunity to photograph you! These photos are a testament of your strength, beauty, and confidence. I hope that you will always light up your path in life with that radiant smile of yours and with the knowledge that you are more then able to handle everything that comes your way.  Best wishes on your Senior year and beyond!

What is a portrait?

"The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other's welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life. "

Derek Walcott

To me, this poem is the perfect embodiment of a portrait.

A portrait is more then just a picture of yourself.  A portrait is meant to be taken when you feel your best and in turn you look your best. When you are confident and at peace with yourself you also allow your beautiful soul light to radiate. When no facade remains and you have peeled back the curtain then is when your truly radiant and unique beauty will shine. To possess an image that captures you with no facade is one of the greatest treasures you will own.  This is a portrait.

Live today with no fear, no facade, no walls.

Today sit, feast on your life.

Senior Glam

Meet Kali, this sweet, lovely young lady.  She is just heading into her senior year of high school and is a very diligent student with an exciting future ahead of her.  She was just the perfect model and I had so much fun capturing her unique personality.  It was also extra special to have her beautiful Mom and Gramma come in with her as well.  We had an amazing girly day at my studio making great memories and creating gorgeous, modern, glamour portraits.

Hello and welcome to Captured Imagery.

I am Esther, portrait photographer; artist & creator; lover of beauty, music & books; and deeply passionate about life, family, & friendship.

For as long as I can remember I have always had a great appreciation for the varying artistry found in photography, even though my personal interest in it only sparked about three years ago. Since then and since I bought my first DSLR camera, that spark has grown into a fire and passion that has brought me to where I am today—seeking to unite my love of photography with my deeper passion of seeing the beautiful in every area of life. It is my desire to capture it as a timeless keepsake because every age and era has its rare kind of beautiful.

Every woman possesses her own exclusive feminine charm and grace that are hers and hers alone. My joy and desire is to create an unforgettable experience and capture that in its vast diversity. So many, it seems, are waiting for 'the right time' to exist in photographs of themselves and those they hold near and dear to their heart.  But what if the right time is now? What if NOW is the best time of your life and NOW you are beautiful in every way?

I am excited for the opportunity to celebrate the lives of women and their loved ones through my camera.

With delight I would like to introduce you to my work and studio here in my lovely home town of Watertown, New York.

Don't wait to love your life. Don't wait to live from your heart. Don't wait to follow your dreams.
